Wells Fargo Arena Exterior Lighting
In 2024 Wells Fargo Arena underwent an exciting roofing project that includes our newly installed exterior lighting system. Boasting 576 cutting-edge LED lights encircling the arena, allows us to add a splash to the Des Moines skyline and enhance the 'wow' factor of the beautiful riverfront. The colors of the arena will be able to be changed as needed to reflect the colors of a concert, event, celebration, or recognition of a holiday.

Details
Oak View Group (managers of the Iowa Events Center) is accepting community requests for special lighting to recognize a specific cause or to commemorate or enhance a specific event consistent with this purpose. The exterior upper bowl and metal façade of Wells Fargo Arena are equipped with multi-color LED lights to illuminate.
Permit Requests
Submit your application at least 30 days prior to your event by submitting a permit online.
Permit Instructions
1. Fill out the application below in full. Provide contact information, details of events, and requested dates.
2. Submit the permit request and acknowledge you agree to the permit fee. $100.00 fee is required.
3. Staff will review the request and provide the resources needed to fulfill the permit.
4. Once all items are collected, the permit will be approved and programmed.
5. Submit payment per agreement.
To Be Considered
Requests will be evaluated based on factors including, but not limited to: nature of cause/event; history and background of organization, cause/event; how the lighting will benefit the cause/event; and relevance to Polk County.
Oak View Group may override any existing and confirmed illuminations in support of citywide, countywide, national or world emergency observances, or events booked at the arena over requested dates and will work with requestors to best accommodate or reschedule the original request.
Permits are limited to no more than three (3) consecutive days and request for no more than six (6) total days per calendar year.
